The Kaaba means cube in Arabic, it is a square building, elegantly draped in cotton and silk veil.
Where is the Kaaba? It is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Kaaba is the holiest shrine in Islam.
After 624 C.E, Muslims were directed to pray 5 times a day towards Mecca and the Kaaba rather than Jerusalem.
The most fundamental principles of Islam are praying 5 times a day and the Hajj. Every Muslim aspire to undertake the Hajj, or the annual pilgrimage, to the Kaaba once in their life if they are able.
The Kaaba was a sanctuary in pre-Islamic times. Muslims believe that Abraham (known as Ibrahim in the Islamic tradition), and his son, Ismail, constructed the Kaaba. Also, tradition holds that it was originally a simple unroofed rectangular structure. Moreover, The pre-Islamic Kabba was re-built in c. 608 C.E by The Quraysh tribe, who ruled Mecca.

The Kaaba has become a holy site for Muslims because Allah (SWT) has declared so. According to the Holy Quran:
Surah Al-Ma’idah – 97:
Allah has made the Kaaba—the Sacred House—a sanctuary of well-being for all people, along with the sacred months, the sacrificial animals, and the ˹offerings decorated with˺ garlands. All this so you may know that Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth and that He has ˹perfect˺ knowledge of everything.
Surah Ali ‘Imran – 96:
Surely the first House ˹of worship˺ established for humanity is the one at Bakkah—a blessed sanctuary and a guide for ˹all˺ people.
Surah Al-Baqarah – 125
And ˹remember˺ when We made the Sacred House1 a center and a sanctuary for the people ˹saying˺, “˹You may˺ take the standing-place of Abraham2 as a site of prayer.” And We entrusted Abraham and Ishmael to purify My House for those who circle it, who meditate in it, and who bow and prostrate themselves ˹in prayer˺
Surah Al-Baqarah – 127:
And ˹remember˺ when Abraham raised the foundation of the House with Ishmael, ˹both praying,˺ “Our Lord! Accept ˹this˺ from us. You are indeed the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
According to the holy Quran, Allah (SWT) the Kaaba is sacred, the grounds around it, and we follow Allah (SWT)’s commands.
