Wiping over the Khuff

It is established in the Prophet’s Sunnah that one may wipe over the khuff (a kind of leather socks that covers the ankle). The majority of scholars include socks under this ruling .

Those conditions are:

1- Purity: In reciting the Noble Qur’an, purity is required from both major and minor impurities, also, it’s worth mentioning that it is permissible to read the Holy Quran via the smartphone or other smart devices without purification from minor impurity that requires ablution, and it is not permissible to read it in the event of not purification from major impurity.

Moreover, It is worth mentioning that it is not permissible to touch the Holy Quran except when purifying oneself from the two events because Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran: “No one touches it except those who are purified.” “لا يمسه إلا المطهرون”.

2- Istaazaah (Seeking refuge) and basmalah: When starting to read the Holy Quran, it is required that a person seek refuge in Allah (SWT) from the accursed Shaitan and basmalah, and this condition applies to reading the Holy Quran from a smartphone or the traditional Qur’an.

3- Evoking the greatness of the Holy Quran in the heart: Every Muslim must evoke the greatness of the Holy Quran in his heart and know that he is speaking with Allah (SWT). This condition must be fulfilled whether you are going to read the Holy Quran from a smartphone or other smart device, or through the traditional Quran, or even from your memory.

4- Reflection: Reading the Holy Quran, whether traditional or through smart devices, requires the Muslim to contemplate the Holy Quran, understand its meanings, try to meditate on the greatness of Allah’s (SWT) words, take lessons from the stories in it, and sense the Creator’s ability through contemplation of Allah’s (SWT) verses in the universe.
