The Day of Arafah is among the days that Allah has favored in the Islamic tradition. It is a day of forgiveness and mercy, where countless Muslims worldwide engage in acts of worship and devotion. Allah mentions the significance of this day in the Quran:

“And [mention] when We made the House a place of return for the people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 125)

The Day of Arafah is also considered a day of completion and perfection of the religion, as it is reported that on this day, Allah revealed the verse:

“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah: 3)

Prophetic Hadiths on the Virtue of Fasting on the Day of Arafah

Expiation of Sins:

Abu Qatada al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Fasting on the Day of Arafah is an expiation for the sins of the previous year and the coming year.” (Narrated by Muslim).

This hadith illustrates the great virtue of fasting on the Day of Arafah, as it provides forgiveness for two years’ worth of sins, making it a highly rewarding and purifying act.

The Best Day for Supplication:

Abdullah ibn Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The best supplication is the supplication on the Day of Arafah, and the best of what I and the prophets before me have said is: ‘There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partners. To Him belongs the kingdom, and to Him belongs all praise, and He has power over all things.'” (Narrated by Tirmidhi).

This hadith emphasizes that supplication on the Day of Arafah is among the best acts a Muslim can engage in, as it is highly likely to be accepted by Allah.

A Day of Liberation from the Fire:

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah.” (Narrated by Muslim).

This hadith highlights the magnitude of Allah’s mercy on this day, where countless believers are granted freedom from Hellfire.

Besides fasting, it is highly encouraged to engage in extra prayers, Quran recitation, remembrance (dhikr), and giving charity.

Focus on Supplication:
