Meaning of the White Days

These days are called the “White Days” because the moon is full and bright in the sky throughout the night. They are part of the lunar monthly cycle, occurring in the middle of each Hijri month.

Prophetic Hadiths on the Virtue of Fasting the White Days

Several hadiths from Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encourage fasting on these days, including:

  1. Hadith of Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “My close friend (the Prophet) advised me to do three things: fast three days of every month, pray two rak’ahs of Duha (forenoon prayer), and perform Witr prayer before sleeping.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

This hadith indicates the importance of fasting three days each month, and it is preferable for these days to be the White Days.

  2. Hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him):

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Fasting three days of every month is like fasting for a lifetime.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim).

This hadith explains that whoever fasts three days of each month is as if they have fasted for a lifetime, due to the multiplication of rewards.

Benefits of Fasting the White Days

  1. Multiplication of Rewards:

    • Fasting the White Days is equivalent to fasting the whole year due to the multiplication of good deeds, as each good deed is multiplied tenfold.
  2. Drawing Closer to Allah:

    • Fasting is one of the best acts of worship through which a servant draws closer to his Lord, earning Allah’s pleasure and love.
  3. Purification and Refinement of the Soul:

    • Fasting helps to discipline and purify the soul, aiding in the avoidance of sins and transgressions.
  4. Health Benefits:

    • Fasting offers numerous health benefits, including improved digestive function, regulation of blood sugar levels, and enhancement of the immune system.
  5. Following the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him):

    • By fasting on the White Days, a Muslim revives a prophetic tradition and follows the example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
