The Abbasi Mosque is one of the oldest and most famous mosques built in Port Said in Egypt. It was established in the year 1322 AH corresponding to the year 1904 AD during the reign of Egypt’s Khedive Abbas Helmy II. It is one of the Islamic monuments registered in Port Said and is located in the Arab neighborhood.
The mosque was established in 1904 AD to be the second mosque in Port Said after Al-Tawfiqi Mosque - the oldest mosque in the city- as a result of the rapid growth in the population in Port Said and the need to establish a new mosque to accommodate the number of worshipers. The Abbasid era is a distinct historical architectural era, when Khedive Abbas built it within 102 mosques of this style in various governorates.
The mosque has undergone many renovations since its inception by the Ministry of Endowments to which the mosque is affiliated, the last of which was in 2000, and the mosque was registered as an antiquity a hundred years after its establishment.
