It was built by Sultan al-Kamil al-Ayyubi in 1211, and only the carved wooden mausoleum with wonderful drawings remains of it now
This mausoleum covered with a double wooden dome is considered one of the greatest and most beautifully decorated buildings of the Middle Ages.
Perhaps the architect has seen that the size and height of the dome in this form may not be consistent with the proportions and standards for architecture from the outside.
The mausoleum of Imam al-Shafi’i is one of the largest mausoleums in Egypt at all. It consists of a square area, the length of the inside side is 15 m, and it has very thick walls, which qualifies it to carry a huge dome.
