Jummah Mosque is also called Al-Wadi Mosque, as it is called the Atika Mosque, and Al-Qubeib Mosque in relation to the place in which it was built, and the reason for its name is that when the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived at Quba, an immigrant stayed there for four days and then left it on Friday, heading to Medina, and the Friday prayer overtook him. In this place, and the Banu Salem bin Awf of the Ansar lived in it, so he came down there and prayed the Friday prayer with those with him, and it was the first Friday to be held after his migration, peace be upon him, to Medina.
When the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, migrated from Makkah to Madinah, which he reached on Monday, 12 Rabi’ al-Awwal of the first Hijri year, he prayed and peace be upon him in Quba for four days until the morning of Friday, corresponding to the 16th of Rabi’ al-Awwal, then he left for Madinah. And near his place of residence in Quba, he realized the Friday prayer, and he prayed it in the middle of Wadi Al-Ranuna.
The place where the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, prayed Friday was specified, and it was later called the Friday Mosque.
